West Itchen Community Trust Welcomes its 100th Client to its Taste of Enterprise Business Course

West Itchen Community Trust have just celebrated supporting their 100th client Peter Mclaughlin through the ’Taste of Enterprise Course. The monthly 2 day course delivered at the Ropewalk in Derby Road provides an insight to becoming self-employed and offers on going business networking & mentoring support.

Anyone living working or hoping to establish a business in the Trusts geographical area can access this free programme of support.

Peter Mclaughlin is a student at Southampton Solent University, studying Television and Video Production. He is establishing Mirror Image Productions  in partnership with Patrick Phillips who also attended the business course. They are both moving into their second year of study at university.

Mirror image Productions will offer specialist promotional and commercially based videos for businesses in order for them to market themselves visually to their audiences. Their promotional videos are short, smart and straightforward enabling clients to convey their message clearly and directly to the chosen demographic.

Peter spent last year within the Post Production side of the film industry. He worked across the Essex and Hertfordshire area as a freelance editor and workshop facilitator for HENS Theatre Company. Prior to working for HENS he was fortunate to have taken work placements with several established television production companies in the London area that include “Kudos Film and Television”, “Exposure Post Production”, “The Bank” and “Suite TV”.  Whilst working with HENS he completed numerous editing contracts and lead large primary school groups in practical film making activities Peter and Patrick hope to apply the things they learn within their degree and from the enterprise course into their new business.

Rick Harwood, Chief Executive for West Itchen Community said “The Trust introduced the course in April 2011 following a successful pilot project.  While the Trust has been offering business start-up mentoring since 2004, recent changes in delivery for business training funded by the Government have seen a decline in group support in the area.  We responded by changing our delivery method and absorbing some of the impact of economic decisions made centrally that impact us locally.  It’s fantastic that the course has been so successful and hopefully we can maintain this support in the longer term.”
