Lantern Building Workshop & Lantern Festival Parade

3pm & 5pm, Sunday 17 February
at John Hansard Gallery and Guildhall Square

Join in with the lantern building workshop from 3pm in the John Hansard Gallery and *Chinese martial arts, music and cultural activities in Guildhall Square.

At 5pm a Lantern Parade will start from the John Hansard Gallery at Guildhall Square through to the Bargate and surrounding area. The parade will be headed by a illuminated Chinese ‘dragon’ which will dance through the streets. This will be followed by the lanterns and a Chinese ‘lion’ dance at the rear of the parade, to ward off evil and bring good luck to everyone involved in the parade.

For people who are unable to attend the lantern workshop, some spare lanterns will be available for those wishing to take part in the parade. Priority will be given to families.

Alternatively, you can join in the parade with your torches or torch on your mobile phone.

The lantern parade is suitable for all the family and everyone is welcome to take part. Please listen to the instructions from the parade stewards.
